‘पत्थर-सी हों मांस-पेशियाँ, लोहे-से भुज-दण्ड अभय,

नस-नस में हो लहर आग की, तभी जवानी पाती जय।

These lines accurately describe the power the youth has, once he has mastered the body or made it tough. Vivekananda had said, ” To master your mind, master your body.” The battle of life is not won by the meek but the tough who face the vicissitudes of life smiling. To achieve mental toughness we have to first make the body tough. In Astang Yoga out of eight steps, first four Yam, Niyam, Asan and Pranayam are devoted towards clearing and toughening up the body.

Ahaar is also important. We become what we eat. Food can be divided into Tamsik, Rajsik and Satvik. Tamsik, like alcohol and liquor are bad when we have them and later also. Rajsik like, too much of sweets may be good while we have them but has ill effects later on. Boiled vegetables or plain meals are Satvik food which may not taste good while having but always are beneficial. In olden days a lot of stress was given to Sattvic food. We have the same “Pravritis” as the food we eat. Observe the animals that have sattvic food. They are peaceful and docile. While the carnivorous that have tamsik food are aggressive and violent.

Ahaar also includes the stimuli that we feed our senses. If we constantly feed our mind with mindless TV program, senseless music and cheap literature we tend to grow in the same direction. The most important Ahaar is the thoughts that we entertain in our mind. You are what you think. It has been found that we think about 60,000 thoughts in a day. The irony is 80% of them are repetitive. How can we progress if we think the same thoughts and do the same things every day. Eienstien had said, ” It is madness to continue to do the same things everyday and expect a different result.” While eating if we get a bitter taste, we instantly drink water but we entertain bitter thoughts in our minds for life long. The first step to conquer your mind is to become an observer of thoughts. The mind is said to be a monkey which has been bitten by the scorpion of Ignorance/ Agyaan and is drunk with Ego/ Ahankaar. The monkey has to be brought under control, slowly but surely.

Power is Work done per unit Time. To achieve Power, Time is one commodity the Youth can ill afford to neglect. Power will come to the Youth who realizes the importance of every second of time and has a definite Goal in Life. Success is progressive realization of a goal within a reasonable time. I will suggest the youth to write down their Goals on paper. It has been found that 80% of people who write down their goals, achieve them. There is a particular way to write down the goal statement.
My aim in life is to ……………………………. by ………………………………………………(Date).

I am sure by following these suggestions the Youth will find himself to be more powerful and in control of his life. We are all links of the beautiful chain called India. The strength of the country will depend upon the weakest link. So, it is not only in our interest to be strong and powerful but it is also our duty.
